We are very lucky to have the opportunity to play host to Yarn Pony’s exquisite hand-dyed yarns, as Mica the owner is one very busy lady. As well as working in IT, she also runs hand-dyeing workshops in her studio and co-organizes Edinburgh’s yarn festival. This is a great opportunity to meet the hand-dyer and experience the uniqueness of hand-dyed yarns and how best to knit with them.

I first discovered hand-dyed yarns when I was an expat based in Beijing about 4 years ago, when a member of my international knitting club brought back the most gorgeous skein of hand-dyed yarn from the US. I have been totally mesmerized since and I still find it very hard to resist a luxury skein of hand-dyed yarn.

Autumn colours in the shop

Autumn is such a beautiful time of year in Edinburgh with nature bursting with the most amazing colours and subtle hues. To keep alive the memories of this very brief season, check out Shilasdair’s luxurious blends of hand-dyed yarns from the Isle of Skye in the shop, it is hard to believe that such rich and vibrant colours can be achieved using natural dyes found in nature.

Rich and vibrant autumn colours can be found everywhere, but very soon the wind and the rain will completely strip the trees bare and turn everything into mush!

If you need a soft worsted/dk weight yarn, check out Cascade’s Lana D’Oro (alpaca/wool) range, currently stocking 14 colours in the shop and a few more colours have been added to the Cascade 220 Heathers.

It is definitely sweater season, a great quick and simple top-down pullover project using the Cascade include Arleen. This yarn is also great for quick hats, cowls, mitts and scarves.
