Delighted to be stocking a new Edinburgh based indie dyer in the shop – Knit Cosmic Strings.isla_280x280.20498525_ntmgd13n

The team consists of Phu and Bea, both are biologists by day, but completely bitten by the hand dyeing bug, they spend their evenings creating amazing hand dyed wool!

I discovered them on Instagram and Etsy and I am amazed how they have managed to develop such a beautiful and contemporary range of hand painted yarns in a very short space of time.IMG_3805

Their colourways remind me of the beautiful patio gardens dotted around Marchmont, the Meadows and the Grange, where the shop is located.IMG_3807

Beata dyes her yarn in Cork, Ireland and covers the wide spectrum of colours, tones and moods.  IMG_3601She is immensely popular and has a wide international following.

I have been following her progress probably for over eight years, from when she was a very small indie dyer.   Her colours and choice of bases continue to inspire me.

She has some lovely free patterns on her website that knit really well with her hand dyed  yarns, but her yarns have really inspired many of Stephen West’s designs.

New arrivals for Autumn

As the evenings are quickly getting darker and the leaves are starting to fall from the trees, it definitely feels like it is time to get those needles and hooks out of the closet and start thinking about Christmas presents. Winter yarns have started to arrive in the shop, including a re-stock of Malabrigo Rastita (Sport weight / 285m, Single Ply, Merino ) – the shop now stocks 13 colours.

Favourite Scarf Ever – one skein of Malabrigo Rastita in the Glitter colourway.

It is very hard to resist Malabrigo’s very soft and beautiful hand dyed yarns, they are perfect for quick and last minute gifts. This is a free scarf pattern by Lisa Bruce on Ravelry, which is extremely easy to remember and very effective for highly variegated yarns. One skein of the Rastita is enough for a scarf measuring about 140cm.

Madelinetosh has arrived!

Just arrived in the shop are 22 colours of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light – Fingering Weight – 100g – 420yards / 384 metres. Perfect for lacy shawls, accessories and light-weight sweaters and cardigans.

Madelinetosh is an extremely popular artisanal hand dyed yarn brand from America and used by many designers on Ravelry.

Their range of natural fibre yarns are sourced from Peru and South Africa, which are skillfully hand-dyed in Texas (USA) in very small batches using low impact dyes and no dye lots are available.

Their colour palette is breathtaking and extensive and you will fall in love with their colours. Colours currently in stock are available for sale on the online shop.
