LEARN TO KNIT using Modern Techniques

Be Inspired Fibres has now been opened for a month, and I want to thank all the lovely well wishers from both local Marchmont residents and visitors from afar, who have managed to find me and supported the shop. It is very quiet at the moment around Marchmont, since most families and students have gone away for the summer, but I have kept myself busy researching and planning classes and workshops for the autumn.

Tawny Owl

It is great to see that the yarn shop has re-awakened some people’s intentions to start knitting again. The shop aims to inspire people to be creative whether they have been mesmerized by the wonderful colours of the Crazy Zauberballs or seduced by the luxurious silky cashmere.

For those new knitters who prefer to learn in an informal, interactive and more social setting, rather than from youtube videos, Be Inspired Fibres will be hosting a series of designer-led knitting classes and workshops scheduled for September and October at the shop. You will also find a list of classes on another page, which I will update on a regular bases.

Barley hat

Oats Cowl

We start the season with Emily Wessel’s 3 x Monday evenings course – Learning to Knit using Modern Techniques based on the soon-to-be released patterns by Tin Can Knits.

You will also get to choose whether you want to knit a beautiful hat or a cowl using some Malabrigo worsted weight yarn.

Emily Wessel will guide students through a project from start to finish, knitting in the round and seamless, using circular needles and the magic loop technique or double pointed needles. When you have mastered these essential skills, they will be extremely useful for follow-on projects such as mittens, gloves, sweaters, fairisle and socks.

Immediate feedback from a teacher will help students gain confidence quickly and will help them spot and correct mistakes early. This course is highly recommended for either complete beginners, refreshers or improvers, who need some support to get them started. This class is scheduled for Monday evenings between 6.30 and 8.30 – Sept 2nd, 9th and 16th.

Introduction into Lace Knitting

As Emily will be away in October, we will try to fit in An Intro into Lace Knitting before she leaves. This course is a 2 week x 2hrs on Monday evenings, 23rd and 30th September, so if you are a confident beginner or improver, you may be interested in learning about basic lace knitting techniques, chart reading, life lines and blocking. If you book both Emily’s classes at the same time, you will get a 10% discount on the total amount.
