For a new yarn shop, there are just so many exciting brands and possibilities to choose from. In recent weeks, we have seen the arrival of Schoppel Wolle’s range of colourful Zauberballs, which have been a great hit with locals in the Marchmont area.
Zauberballs come in lace, sock and DK weights, a selection of each are currently available in the shop.
The Crazy Zauberballs are proving to be the most popular and as they are machine washable, they are not only great for socks but also for children’s clothing.
I couldn’t wait to knit up a ball and made a simple beanie to showcase the gentle and wonderful colour changes, there was enough yarn left over to make a pair of mittens.
Sock yarns are ever so popular and Jawoll Sock Yarns by the Swiss yarn company Lang include a reel of nylon to strengthen the toe and heel. The solid colours provide a contrast but also complement self striping and variegated socks well. I will be adding more colours to this range in future, so watch this space!
The Little Prince is German sock yarn manufacturer Opal’s latest theme. These self striping variegated yarns are also great for children’s clothing and toys, not to mention mittens and hats.
